A few of our wonderful transcriptionists …

EMILY

I ventured into the field of transcription after a long, long stint in hospitality and I've never made a better decision! I think I've always been a good listener - or at least my friends think so - so active listening is right up my alley. It's amazing what you learn from the diversity of jobs one does as a transcriptionist. From aerospace to capital finance to consumer wine preferences to healthcare to semiconductor components to how to choose a good washer, I can say it truly never gets boring!

Favorite Book? I love to read and my favorite book changes every couple of months. At the moment, it's The Orphan's Tales by Catherynne Valente

Favorite Time of Day? I'm an absolute night owl! My brain only ever starts to comes awake after 5pm.

Favorite Dessert? Hmm... The Atacama if it's really desert, but cheesecake if it's dessert.

Coffee or tea?  How may per day? Coffee - many, many cups a day.

JONI

I love listening to people explain their perspectives. My favorite Jolly Road projects are Highlight Insights. My work enables clients to easily glance through the transcription and focus on the most important quotes and key insights.

I found Jolly Road on Greenbook. I had already been typing for 15 years. I saw the name, “Jolly Road” and liked the name. It seemed like a happy company; don’t you think? I reached out and have been working with David and his team ever since.

My parents named me Joni after their favorite singer, Joni James. But my favorite name these days is Grandmom!

TINA

Way, way, way back in 1999, I got started in the transcription industry. We’ve come a long way! In 1999, we had to call in using a landline, punch a bunch of numbers (codes) to record audio into a tape recorder using a special technique to reduce background noise. This “technique” involved placing the tape recorder in a plastic container, wrapping a sock around the transmitter end of the handset, placing the lid over it, and yelling for everyone in the house to be quiet!

I am located in the Midwest (central time zone) where I live with my husband and youngest son. My eldest son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild live close by. I love photography, watching movies, and reading novels.   Our “family sport” is tennis.

MARISSA

I am an actor and Adjunct Professor of Theatre from New Jersey, with a healthy obsession with cats and cheeseburgers. My favorite “free time” activity is a long walk and a podcast followed by a nap on the couch with my cat, Bubbles. I am a night owl and will watch almost anything that pops up on Netflix. I am easily entertained! As for transcription, I enjoy the nuanced ways that people express themselves when talking about their life experiences or a new product. There is something about it that makes me feel connected to humanity.

KELLY

Sports are life and we can only be friends if you love the Chicago Cubs, or don’t mind me telling you why any other team doesn’t measure up.  When I’m not watching sports or typing I spend a ton of time with my awesome kids who are teaching me to play cello, violin, and trumpet.

I love being a transcriptionist because I enjoy working independently and I love listening to people talk and learning about new things!

My all time favorite movie is Pride & Prejudice. I like ice cream & naps! Dislike hot weather & grocery shopping!

Hobbies: Painting, drawing, bakingI absolutely love animals; I have 4 dogs (2 Great Pyrenees, a two mixes), 1 cat, and 1 rat.

I come from York, Pennsylvania, and reside in West Lafayette, IN- Boiler Up!
