How I became a filmmaker
by David Kalisher
I attended Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. While there, I joined a boxing gym in the projects. I had grown up in a predominately white, small town in Connecticut. Suddenly I was the only white guy at an inner-city gym. I learned to duck a few brain-crushing punches
and destroyed a world of misconceptions and stereotypes. While I did not go on to become Light Heavyweight Champion of the world as planned, it was these experiences in New Orleans that inspired me to become a filmmaker. I had a story to tell.
